Jeannine's Family Background

Jeannine was born in Macon, Georgia in 1935. Her father, Earnest Leon Carey, and his parents were from Jasper County, Georgia. We know that one line of the family, Johnston, migrated to Georgia via North Carolina from Caroline County, Virginia after the American Revolutionary War. Littleton Johnson, an ancestor, served the American cause in that war. Jeannine's mother, Willella Benton Grimes, and maternal grandparents were from Glenwood, Georgia, where her grandfather Grimes was a general store merchant and owner. Jeannine's father was an automobile and aircraft mechanic. Her mother was a clerk in a dry goods store. More research is needed on Jeannine's ancestry, but it is believed they primarily are of English origin.
